About us

Why Choose Us?

Well, if you are looking for “a good show” we are not your place. If you are looking for solid verse by verse teaching, can appreciate the value of both hymns and modern songs, and a friendly group with lots of opportunities to serve… we might be the place for you. We are actually kind of “retro” because we still use some classic elements to our services, such as a biblical call to worship, pastoral prayer time and a traditional style offering and Communion.

[This video below is a little out of date now, we are hoping to do a new one in 2026. But hopefully this glimpse of “what we look like” is still helpful!]

Our History

The Church was established as a church plant by David Omdahl, who was a missionary pastor with the Northwest Baptist Home Mission in 1977 under the name Willamette Valley Baptist Church and met at a facility on River Road. They later met at the American Legion Hall in Springfield, where they changed the name to Charity Baptist Church. They built the current facility at 6364 Main Street, Springfield, Oregon in 1978.  Some years later the name was changed to Thurston Community Baptist Church. Since Pastor Omdahl, we have had 7 other pastors, the current pastor is Mike Schellenberg, who began his service in 2016. We are the only “General Association of Regular Baptist Churches” (GARBC) associated church in the Eugene/Springfield area.
